Last Thursday, March 30, the presentation of Agricultural Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 took place and that evening also introduced a new subcategory: the award for Best Food & Agri Start-up 2023. In the latter category, Multiphase Dryers, from Eiwitcampus participant Merlijn Chardon, was nominated.
This election is organized by Boerderij, FoodAgribusiness, Groenten & Fruit Actueel and Pluimveehouderij. Multiphase Dryers has been developing a drying technology based on the use of low-grade waste heat at the Protein Campus since 2018.
However, the competition was also strong and Merlijn himself described it as follows: "As versatile as the Agrifood sector is, so versatile are the solutions to combat food waste. Three of those solutions have been nominated by the election "Best Agrifood start-up 2023" and coincidentally, all three match up nicely in the processing chain of a typical Dutch crop, the potato."
Lars, Martijn and Stefan Flikweert from Ouwerkerk were elected the Best Food&Agri Start-up 2023 on March 30, congratulations! With their start-up Flikweert Vision Technologies, they developed an optical sorting machine for (seed) potatoes that improves itself via artificial intelligence.
All in all a great evening, where 8 top entrepreneurs presented their ideas from, with and for the sector and society!
